EU - US Summit: Some Results, A Lot Of Promises

At the annual EU-US summit meeting on April 30th 2007 the European Union and the United States agreed on more issues than they disagreed.

At the White House summit, Bush, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso recognized the “urgent” priority that has to be given to the issue of global warming.

The topic of deploying a missile shield in Eastern Europe also was discussed.

President Bush told the Europeans leaders that he had sent Defense Secretary Robert Gates to Moscow to discuss the topic with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In addition, they also discussed adopting a framework on transatlantic economic integration; political and security issues; a joint statement on energy security and climate change and signing of a first Air Transport Agreement.

“I really welcome the fact that there was progress in this meeting” said Barroso.
